Science and Math

This year in Science we are learning about the human body, as well as our nature studies. It is purposefully picked as our text as we are talking about health and body workings regarding Daddy. Understanding always helps us work through life situations.
We are a Math-U-See family for life I think! Working on though or cyclical workbooks.

Gemma's bone facts.

Aiden's bone facts.

Keiran's bone facts.

 Aiden's skeleton.

Gemma's skeleton.

Keiran's skeleton.

Finn's body puzzle. This serious little man is building the muscular system.

Finn's bone drawing. He was magnificent explaining it all too. Too cute!

Math! Finn has begun Math-See-U Primer.

Gemma is continuing in Gamma this year. Multiplying by seven here.

Keiran is in Beta, working through multiple digit subtraction.

Aiden has started Epsilon and is doing awesome adding and subtracting fractions.

Keiran --> LA, Bible, Math, Socials

Keiran. A little of this, a little of that.

Language Arts

Keiran's focus this year is to continue on improving his reading skills and for him to gain confidence in writing as well. He is still gaining ground with Reading Eggs, but has some stop when it comes to fluid chapter book/paragraph reading. He seems to thrive on individual vocabulary so I have been trying a different approach to building his reading skills and keeping him growing. This vocabulary book and word group reading book have been a sign to me that he can read well at these levels.

Keiran's Evan-Moor, "Skill Sharpener's Spell and Write Grade 3", and "Explode the Code 5"
 book work:

Bible

Reading through the Keepsake Bible with Mom. Pick a story, mom reads.

Social Studies

Keiran's is working through "Canada My Country. "

Gemma --> LA, Bible, Math, Socials

Gemma. A little of this, a little of that.

Language Arts.

Gemma daily works on journaling and reading. This is our practice and free creative writing time. Gemma is excelling in reading. Her journal helps build confidence and spelling skills, and sometimes a little grammar as well. She is doing great with this this year. The focus that I wanted for Gemma this year was to improve upon and build her spelling ability. She is working at A Reason For Spelling, Level D.

Gemma picked this book from our varied stack of readers.

A page from Gemma's journal and how we use it for building spelling skills.

 Spelling worksheet- definitions.

Proofreading.

Bible
Gemma has been enjoying her "The Book of Bible Doodles" this year. The stories she is learning have often lined up with Kids Church so it has been fun that way. Gemma is first looking up her scriptures in her bible and then colors and adds to her doodle pages.

Math

Gemma is working through Math-U-See Beta this year.
Here is a sample of lesson 27- subtracting money:

Aiden --> LA, Bible, Math, Socials

Aiden. A little of this a little of that.

Language Arts

Aiden works on his daily journaling and reading everyday. After that his main focus has been Evan-Moor Grammar and Punctuation workbook. Here are some samples of what he has been doing:

 Regular or irregular verbs.

Regular or irregular verbs in the past tense.

Classifying pronouns. Subject, object, or reflexive?

Bible

Aiden has been doodling through the bible. I love this resource because it causes him to look up his own scriptures before he draws a simple doodle to reflect on what he read. Here is his doodle from Psalm 98:4:

Math

Aiden is working through Math-U-See Delta, learning division.
Single digit division with a remainder.

Social Studies

Aiden has dove into Courage and Conquest, Discovering Canadian History. He is studying all about the settlers through reading text, maps, a timeline, and online research. It is another rich Donna Ward resource.
