Pre-K

Chapters has this great set of Montessori number and letter books (there is also one about shapes that we will eventually pick up). I used the number book to teach Gemma her numbers (from one to ten) last year. This year we picked up the letter book as well and these are great for Keiran who is Pre-K.

The number book lets the kids count different things and then trace a raised number with their finger.
The letter book teaches the sound of each letter and gives an object example, and then lets the kids trace the letter with their finger.

Our change up of Socials

These are the new books that came for Social Studies....

Mapping, for Aiden's grade two Socials.

We picked out a few readers from the Sonlight Grade 2 and K Socials curriculum.

Adding onto English for Gemma

I was finding Gemma's Sonlight LA K program to be a little thin, but it had supplements included in the planner already, so we ordered those. Explode the Code programs are great for teaching phonics and are simple and animated- the kids do well with these books. The Writing Without Tears books we have already used in the past and they are great for printing practice. The full set comes with wooden blocks that form letters and a mini chalkboard.

Best buddies.

I love that my kids are friends.

3D Art

A boat of Aiden's creation.

Aiden told me that he was teaching the little kids a Lego class.

Everyone is starting to try and build some Lego things. This is another of Aiden's creations.

Gemma is really into drawing right now. Here is her impression of Keiran- no instruction, just free time.

experimenting

Science experiments....

The experiment...

Celery in food coloring.

We chose purple and blue.

Blue leaves!

This was the best show of how the water was being absorbed by the celery.

In the school room.

Our last week or so had been a blur. Here are some pics of both Gemma and Aiden's learning.

Grade 2 Socials- a book about maps.

K socials- a book about surprises and one about differences (the boy is deaf).

Fine Arts

Music:

Mom picked up some Boom Whackers, or some tuned percussion tubes.
The kids made some noise and made up some rhythms.

Outside school

Science experiments:

Collect dirt.

In a jar.

Add water and shake.

Let sit overnight. See the layers?

In the science book.
The kids had fun with this experiment and kept shaking it up and letting it separate again.

Collect yard waste.

A bag of leaves, apples, etc.

The stash.

Decomposing plants.

They wanted to separate the parts of their finds...
apples, seeds, pine cones, grass, and berries.
