Gemma

We have been working on most subjects as a family, except for math as each child has their own level. It has been a great bonding experience as we work as a group.
Gemma's work:

Math-U-See Gamma, Multiple Digit Multiplication. Gemma is a steady worker and has no trouble with her math.

Rounding to 10, 100, 1000.

Double digit times double digit multiplication. This lesson took a bit more to understand with each step but she got it.

Our days begin with focusing in together and listening to our family reader. We are learning about early life on the prairies- influenza, one rom school houses, travelling by horse, women's rights and struggles, etc.

Gemma learned to identify a Steller's Jay.

Every Monday we hike and talk about many parts of nature. Gemma picked some sage for her collection and illustrated her find. It was very hard to identify which kind of sage it was in her research, as she found there are so many types!

Scripture copy work.

Gemma is constantly reading and finished her next six-in-one book and has been reading up a storm.

We have learned about nouns, adjectives, conjunctions, and verbs so far, doing activities to practice each, one such as acting out and guessing verbs.

Our stories started out as simple phrases or words to answer who, what, when, where, why, and how. We have since added each part of speech and built some sentences to fill in the story too. Gemma has been editing and re-editing her story as we go. This shows the verbs she picked to add underlined. She has a little trouble with her spelling and often adds to her word lists that she keeps but we will edit that later too.

Some interesting facts about digestion.

Things we have learned about the digestive system.

Some diagrams from our science text...

Our group Socials Studies lap books have been growing us in good ways. Gemma has learned to research and to write in her own words, and has been working well alongside her brothers.

She learned a lot about Scottish Immigrants in Canada, and all about John A. Macdonald.

For activity Gemma has been swimming with her dad and brothers. Her dad has been challenging her skills and helping her improve her strength for swimming in the deep pool. She has been hiking, walking, playing at the park, riding her bike, and skateboarding.
Gemma is always going above and beyond to help mom and is excellent at chores, such as laundry folding. She also volunteers to set up dishes and coffee/tea for the mother's group that mom hosts weekly.
Gemma loves church and listening to worship music. She is continuing to read through the bible with mom at night- we are in Leviticus at the moment.
Gemma has been making more dinners and baking this year.
