Learning is fun!

Aiden has made a pen pal. He was so excited that he wrote a letter before mom even knew it.He then drew a picture to send along. This is his first letter:

Piano

Practice.

Painting

Washes

Using a thick line of paint and then blending with water, and/or other colors.

Aiden loved the technique of painting the page with water first and then painting the colors over top, letting them run together.

Science and Socials

Still motoring through The Body in science. Last unit of Socials.

Lesson 27- The respiratory system.

Lesson 24- Sir John A. Macdonald

Math

We have finished the second to last lesson in Math-U-See Primer!! Mom will order the Alpha book soon.

Telling time.

Learning subtraction.

Sonlight

We have started our new Sonlight  Grade One Language Arts and Reading program. It is great as it is more advanced in writing than the Phonics Museum program, and it enforces all the phonics lessons that Aiden has already learned as well. Another bonus is that he reads short stories everyday instead of progressively throughout the program. It is less stressful for him to read a little at a time and he loves the creative writing portions. Here are some samples....

The program.

Here is Aiden retelling the story of his last year of soccer.

Day one, week one.

Learning to use a comma.

Writing about the Lorax (we chose this because he had not read the books they gave as examples to write about). As well, copywork which is part of every day. Aiden is getting used to writing on a single line.

Learning to use quotations and direct nouns with a comma.
